Wandering the land features Loretta Narbis an original character of mine, who wanders the land in search of his older brother who went missing a few years back. Loretta is not a warrior, she can barely use even her bow.
I have made the sketch of this picture on paper and colored it digitally after scanning it into the computer. I rarely do this process, I usually sketch digitally too. After scanning I’ve realised that the texture of the paper is very visible on the digital image. First I really liked the effect the texture made but after working more on the picture, half of the texture vanished while there were still some part that was quite visible – especially on the sky. This was not pleasing to the eye so I have softened the texture.
The second challenge I’ve faced with this artwork was creating depth in the background. I have made many modification while coloring: I have made the mountains less tall, this immediatelly added more depth to the picture. The tree was also too big, it looked like it was close to the viewer, although I wanted it to be more in the back. To achieve this I have made it smaller. As for the last step I have made the grass more vivid, bringing the focus to the foreground and to Loretta. This was when I have also changed the cool colors to warm colors on Loretta and around her surroundings.
